BIRATNAGAR, JUN 17 -
CPN-UML sister wing Youth Association Nepal (YAN) Chairman Mahesh Basnet has been released on Friday.
According to UML Morang Chairman Binod Dhakal, Basnet was released at the party office at Paanchali in Biratnagar this afternoon.
Basnet was kept at the Eastern Police Training Centre after he was detained from the Riverside Resort in Itahari yesterday.
After a storm of protest took over different parts of the country over the arrest of Basnet, the Home Ministry decided to release him on Thursday evening.
However, he refused to leave the police center, demanding withdrawal of the case against Parshuram Basnet. He also demanded that the authorities clarify why he was arrested in the first place.
According to party source, Basnet is scheduled to leave for the Capital following discussion with local leaders and cadres.
